Summary

The Senior Medical Director will function as a Global Medical Affairs (MA) leader providing breast cancer subject matter expertise (SME) across relevant breast cancer programs, including strategic input into Global and Regional MA plans, as well as opportunities to develop and provide global and regional SME related to our evolving pipeline. Key to this position will be cross-functional collaboration and provision of medical and strategic expertise across the organization and relevant therapeutic programs. The position will be primarily responsible for identifying, developing and maintaining scientific relationships with key global and regional therapeutic experts. As the Global SME, this person will also lead or participate in Global and Regional Cooperative Groups and Oncology Research Network interactions, serving as the primary Seagen externally facing expert to the medical community. This role will also be responsible for providing medical expertise and strategic leadership to the MA and commercial teams and have responsibility for execution of specific projects, as well as providing strategic input and insights to the clinical development and HEOR teams relating to clinical landscapes and data generation needs.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Works in concert with Global and Regional Medical Directors to develop and execute Global and Regional Medical Affairs breast cancer strategies across relevant therapeutic programs
  • Provision of breast cancer SME across MA functions and regions to shape strategy, provide strategic input and insights into proposed ISTs, and develop scientific messaging
  • Develop and maintain external relationships with key external though leaders, professional societies, patient advocacy groups across regions and in alignment with local medical teams
  • Represent Seagen and program strategies in meetings with Alliance partners and external groups
  • Identify data gaps and develop strategic plans to address and advance the field of study, including collaboration with HEOR to assist in generation of Real World Evidence
  • Provide breast cancer SME, strategic input, and partnership with internal cross-functional partners, including Clinical Development, Commercial/Marketing, Global Value and Access, and Patient Advocacy
  • As appropriate, serve on Global Project Teams as MA lead and SME

Other Competencies:

  • Demonstrated passion for helping patients with cancer and for the science of hematology and oncology
  • Strong leadership presence and the ability to work effectively with other clinical and scientific leaders
  • Collaborative style both internally with other company leadership, but also with external thought leaders, medical professionals, and partners
  • A team player; works well in a team environment both as a leader and a contributor
  • Open, engaging and transparent. Also comfortable with conflict and able to push back when needed
  • Global perspective and mindset; ability to work effectively with colleagues from myriad cultures, backgrounds and geographies

Requirements:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) with extensive Breast Cancer experience (7+ years) and strong understanding of biopharmaceutical drug development
  • Previous pharmaceutical industry experience strongly preferred. Prior medical affairs experience a plus but not required
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Collaborative mindset and a proven track record of working effectively in diverse teams involving multi-functional disciplines
  • Ability to work in an international matrix organization
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively address the scientific and non-scientific community
