Summary

Seagen is seeking an experienced trainer/supervisor or senior animal care technician to support our growing In Vivo Science & Technologies department which supports preclinical studies in rodents. The qualified candidate will have strong interpersonal (transparency, professionalism, integrity, trust) and communication skills (written, verbal), and a strong commitment in supporting the 3Rs and providing quality research support with dedication to advancing science and humane animal care. The candidate must be reliable, innovative, able to complete tasks independently, and willing to participate in a dynamic team environment, while demonstrating a focus on individual accountability for attention to detail in delivering quality and consistent results.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight and supervision of animal care technicians and cage wash staff including routine husbandry tasks, daily checks, weekly work schedules, animal receipt, cage changes, cage wash, sanitation, etc.
  • Develop and supervise training programs and documentation for IVST staff and research scientists Serve as subject matter expert for in vivo technical procedures and facility operations.
  • Train staff and research technicians on restraint, injections (SC, IV, IP, ID) and tissue collection techniques Orient new staff and research technicians on policies and operations within the facility.
  • Coordinate husbandry and research technical schedules
  • Manage service contracts and interact with vendors to ensure quality service and products are received
  • Responsible for procurement of facility-related items including purchase and receipt of rodents, cages, feed, and other items necessary for day-to-day operations
  • Ensure that equipment is maintained in good working condition and preventative maintenance of all equipment and systems is performed according to schedule
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, policies, and guidelines in compliance with animal care and use protocol, IACUC, and AAALAC guidance
  • Participate as member of the IACUC; ensure readiness for IACUC and AAALAC inspections
  • Work with Environmental Health and Safety staff to ensure appropriate, safe, and compliant working conditions Ensure environmental conditions and animal usage are monitored, recorded and in compliance with protocols and guidance
  • In conjunction with the Attending Veterinarian, maintain rodent health monitoring program and ensure immediate health needs are addressed.
  • Have an awareness of latest technologies available in laboratory animal care and technology Be innovative and advise on information technology, equipment needs and facility planning
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining and assuring positive relations with research staff in terms of day-to-day support for science
  • Must be available to support occasional weekend, holiday, and after-hour operational responsibilities

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of technical and management experience OR (LATG/CMAR (Laboratory Animal Technologist / Certified Manager of Animal Resources) with 8+ years of technical and management experience (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge and experience with commonly used software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Search Engines)
  • Experience and knowledge of lab animal facility operations, in vivo technical work, and lab animal equipment and supplies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS and Laboratory animal technical/management certification with at least 8 years of relevant experience
  • Experience working with normal and immune-deficient mice, and the development and utilization of mouse models in oncology drug discovery
  • Experience in a supervisory role
  • Experience with training staff and development of training programs
  • Prior participation/leadership on an IACUC committee and familiarity working with AAALAC guidelines
